The Town Council invites all the friends and citizens of Red Level to join together for a covered dish supper on Saturday, January 15, 2005 at the Red Level Baptist Church building in downtown. Each family is asked to bring a dish of their favorite food. For more information, call Becky or Beverly at Town Hall (334-469-5351).
Leaders for the Red Level Beautification club are gearing up for a community-wide membership drive. The club has been organized for several years and its members are responsible for the landscaping and other improvements in Red Level's attractive appearance. The town council and mayor are looking forward to joining and supporting the Red Level Beautification Club! According to club organizers, everyone in the community is invited to join the club, whose meetings will be announced by club president Rene Beam.
Thanks to Beverly and Becky--

Beverly Rogers has been busy busy busy on behalf of the council. New accounting procedures and software details are requiring necessary changes in accounting procedures just about everywhere there has been "cash" accounting. Auditors are now recommending the "accrual" method for accounting, and the Town of Red Level is no exception for the mandate! Thanks to Beverly, Becky, Eddie Ambrose, and Rabren and Odom accountants, our books will be on time and on target for our increasingly demanding accounting requirements.
Several residents have presented complaints lately about the threat or nuisance of stray dogs and dogs chained outside at night. Richard Marler has been acting dogcatcher and says stray dogs will be trapped humanely, detained for 24 hours, and then removed to the humane shelter.
Becky Prestwood who is handling water accounts and other office duties is great help at city hall. Becky came on board to help on October 5. Welcome Becky!
Jeff Cooley to Address Council in Future--
One of our consultants for rural community development is Jeff Cooley. Mr. Cooley was in Red Level last week helping us keep the tracks greased in the water department. Jeff says we now have a water grant pending the US Senate for about $150,000 for improvements to our water system in Red Level. Red Level has its own water utility which has provided residents with good drinking water for nearly a century. Jeff would like to give the council and citizens an update on the status of the water grant, and he would also like to present some information about sewage treatment: a topic the mayor and others are interested in because of the importance of having such a resource. A sewege treatment facility in Red Level would greatly enhance our ability to attract jobs and industry.
Red Level Industrial Board in the Make--
Mayor Purnell and the Red Level Town Council are making plans for an industrial board for the community. Purnell says this will be a long process which has already begun. The board will consist of members nominated by the council and mayor for appointment. These members will lend expertise to the board which will accelerate the process of attracting new industry, hence new jobs for our residents. He says that it's not a matter of if, but rather a matter of when the industrial boom will spill over into our communities, and Representative Seth Hammett's advice, according to Purnell, is to, "...get ready, first."
McCloskey Making Tracks!--
Councilmember Jim McCloskey has been arranging for some badly needed repairs on some of Red Level's railroad crossings, in addition to surveying erosion damage at a couple of sites: one on Main Street near Barrow Road, and one east of the rail crossing near the Charles Harrelson residence suggest an underminding erosion process that needs to be checked.
Many thanks go to the county workers who have helped us patch several pot holes, and have helped many residents in many ways since the storm.
Public Invited to Regular Council Meeting--
The regular December council meeting will be held in Red Level at Town Hall on Tuesday evening, December 21, 2004, at 7 P.M. The meetings are always open to the public, and the public is encouraged to attend.
Becky Prestwood Helps Out--
Thanks go to Becky Prestwood who has been helping with filing and front receptionist at town hall. In addition to helping with correspondence and water receipting, she also has been setting up incoming and outgoing correspondence logs for the town. Thanks, Becky!
Chief Has Many Hats--
David Anderson is much more than our police chief! He's lately busy with obtaining some new equipment for his department, and also he's been assisting with the inventory and contacts necessary for processing our insurance and disaster paperwork. The list goes on...but here's a special thanks for Chief David Anderson!
Welcome Richard Marler!
The council has employed Richard Marler to work in maintenance for Red Level. Perhaps you've seen Richard out working around town, or where he has been woring around town. Richard has been doing a great job, handling all the 'overload' from hurricane "Ivan". Also: Hat's Off to all those who have been involved in pitching in...
